Founded by Grant Pinney and Amelia Stoker in 2017, County Funerals is a proudly family-owned and fully independent funeral service with over 50 years of combined experience in supporting families through loss.

We believe every goodbye should be as unique as the life lived. Whether you’re looking for a simple direct cremation or a full traditional service, we bring the same care, dedication and love to every funeral we arrange.

What to do if a loved one has passed away

We offer a 24-hour telephone service, so please contact us immediately on 01438 510355, and we will give you clear advice about what to do next

If someone dies at home

Call the family doctor and the next of kin immediately. If the death was expected, the doctor will give you a medical certificate showing the cause of death. They’ll also give you a formal notice saying they’ve signed the medical certificate and telling you how to register the death.

If someone dies in hospital

The hospital will issue a medical certificate and formal notice. The body will be kept in the hospital mortuary until either: the family have organised a funeral director to bring them into their care, relatives arrange a chapel of rest, or the relatives arrange for the body to be taken home.

If someone dies unexpectedly

If someone dies unexpectedly, or the family doctor hasn’t seen them in the last 14 days, the death is reported to a coroner. A coroner is a doctor who is responsible for investigating unexpected deaths. They may call for a post-mortem or an inquest. This may take some time, so the funeral may need to be delayed.
